However, it should be noted that when these windows were painted, it is likely that the churches did not have this purpose in mind. Again, they were thinking about decoration, not about pollutants. However, scientists say that the gold nanoparticles acted as photo-catalytic air purifiers.
Just think, gold painted onto windows helped to make the air less full of germs! So gold is not just for adornment. It has some very practical uses.
