Archaeologists on a dig in Georgia say that they have found the oldest gold mine in the world. We are not speaking of Georgia as in one of the 50 states, but Georgia, the country with is located many, many miles away from the United States.
Tests that experts have performed seem to indicate that they gold mine may go back as far as the third millennium BC. It has been about four years since this ancient gold mine was found 46 meters below ground level not far from Tbilisi, Georgia's capital city.
Although they have been able to give approximate dates for its use and have pinpointed that what was found was indeed a gold mine, there are still some mysteries surrounding this discovery. One of the main mysteries being--what in the world happened to the gold that was mined there? Although the tools that were found indicate that the site was a gold mine, no one is sure where the actual gold went. So we imagine that experts expect to find some trace of gold, even in ancient gold mines.
Wondering where the gold may have gone is not something you will have to do if you sell gold to a gold buyer. You will know exactly where it went and you will have the cash for gold to show for it.
Isn’t it interesting that these experts are quite certain that what they have found is a gold mine, even when they cannot find any of the gold that supposedly was mined there? They do know that gold was a very valuable commodity in the ancient world, just as it is today. So there is no doubt as to why people in the third millennium would be searching for gold. They were able to sell gold and make a profit just as we do today.
