Explorers Search for Gold in Russian Lake
A train, a treasure hunt, a mystery and a war sound like perfect ingredients for a good novel. In this case, all of these things are elements that factor into the disappearance of a Russian train whose remains were recently found at the bottom of Lake Baikal.
Although the discovery of the remains of the train brings up a lot of questions, this was not what explorers originally set out to find. What they really wanted to discover was a large amount of gold, possibly 1,600 metric tons of it. Now the train may have been the vessel that carried the gold, but while the train as found, the gold is still missing.
The train that was found in the depths of Lake Baikal dates back to the Russian Civil War when the White Army (and presumably the gold) all ended up in the lake. It is believed that the train was derailed and ended up in the lake while carrying the gold in the winter between 1919 and 1920. Of course finding the train may be an indication that explores will be able to find all or most of the gold very soon.
Of course you will not have to find special equipment to go exploring the bottom of a lake to find a treasure trove of gold. You may have a treasure trove of gold in your very own home. Now the gold that you find may not be the equivalent of the lost 1,600 metric tons of gold that explorers still hope to find, but we imagine that whatever gold you find will be enough for turn over to a gold buyer to get cash for gold.
