Ancient gold is finding its way back into museums where the general public will be able to enjoy its splendor. A private collector has donated a good number of pre-Hispanic gold objects to Mexico. The gold items, along with objects made with other precious metals and stones, are currently being studied at the Xochicalco museum. Later, these things will be categorized and classified. It is expected that the curious will be able to see the pre-Hispanic gold and other objects in 2010. The gold items from times past will be on display in Mexico and travel throughout the world as part of an exhibition.
Some of the gold items that are being readied for display in Mexico date back as far as 3000 years. The collector amassed this collection in the 1940s. His wife continued to maintain the collection and recently made the decision to sell it. The man who started this collection of pre-Hispanic gold was a dentist. Those studying the gold have said that it seems as if someone has used dental tools to try to repair some of the pieces. Those pieces are not in such great condition, but for the most part, the pre-Hispanic gold is in good condition and has weathered the years pretty well.
We like gold a whole lot, but gold was very important in pre-Hispanic cultures. It was a powerful symbol for the ancient peoples of Latin America. Since gold was the same color as the sun and ancient cultures viewed the sun as an important source of life, gold held monetary and spiritual value. In some place both the sun and gold objects were used to represent fertility.
At the same time, visitors to the recently reopened Iraqi Museum, will not have to wait to see ancient gold objects. Many of the recovered gold items for the museum's collection are on display now.
Maybe you have some gold items that you would actually rather not display. Whether it is broken gold jewelry or old gold statuettes, you should not let these things sit around collecting dust if you do not intend to use them. You can sell gold to a gold buyer and get cash for gold so you can buy new gold jewelry or save the cash for a rainy day.
